Correlation of prenatal events with the development of polymicrogyria.

چکیده
We report two cases of polymicrogyria in which maternal insults were well documented during the first half of the second trimester of pregnancy. The clinical histories, MR studies, and, in one patient, autopsy results were carefully reviewed, and the timing and nature of the injuries correlated with known developmental events at the time of the injury. Our results support the theory that polymicrogyria results from injury to, or disruption of normal cellular interactions at, the external limiting membrane (the "glial-pial barrier").

Early prenatal MR imaging diagnosis of polymicrogyria.
The case of a 24-week-old fetus that showed features suggestive of focal cortical developmental anomaly at prenatal MR imaging is presented. The anomaly was confirmed to be polymicrogyria by 34-week prenatal and the 3-day postnatal MR imaging studies. The report demonstrates that the development of polymicrogyria can be assessed throughout different stages by prenatal MR imaging. In the case re...
متن کاملInterrelationship of genetics and prenatal injury in the genesis of malformations of cortical development.
CONTEXT Although the causes of some malformations of cortical development (MCD) have been established, others remain unclear. There are several lines of evidence supporting the theory of a complex mechanism that involves genetic and environmental factors. OBJECTIVE To investigate the interrelationship of genetics and prenatal injury in the genesis of MCD. PATIENTS AND DESIGN A series of 76 ...
متن کاملThe prenatal development in swamp buffalo (Bubalus carabanensis)
There are morphological and reproductive physiological differences between swamp buffalo (Bubaluscarabanensis) and river buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). The development of fetus weight and fetus biometry wasreported in river buffalo and other animals but not in swamp buffalo. The aim of this study was to describethe inherent variability in fetus related measurements during swamp buffalo pregnancy. T...
متن کاملThe causal model of post-divorce adjustment based on, social and Psychological factors in divorced women of Shiraz
Background and objective: Embryonic and extrauterine life along each other determine the path along which a person's growth and development is influenced by genetic, environmental and social factors. Prenatal events such as premature birth, low birth weight and low Apgar score can affect life after birth. The aim of the present study was to determine the correlation between birth Apgar score an...
متن کاملPrenatal and postnatal evaluation of polymicrogyria with band heterotopia
The coexistence of band heterotopia and polymicrogyria is extremely rare though it has been reported in the presence of corpus callosum anomalies and megalencephaly. We present prenatal and postnatal MRI findings of a rare case of diffuse cortical malformation characterized by polymicrogyria and band heterotopia. Agenesis of the corpus callosum and megalencephaly were also noted. In addition, b...
